Menorah Park and Montefiore are now one integrated foundation and will continue to honor the rich philanthropic legacy of all of our past benefactors.
By tending to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients and their families, we offer comfort and support when it matters most.
Our hospice team members work together to provide the most appropriate care and support including:
Meet the Members of Vinney Palliative Care and Hospice. Our Vinney Hospice care team is the loving factor that’s needed during this difficult journey….
Under hospice, the patient’s own physician will continue to direct care, under the guidance of the hospice staff who make frequent visits. The hospice medical director is available to provide ongoing consultation to the hospice team and primary care physician.
A hospice nurse is assigned to each patient and family to oversee the total care of the patient.
This specially trained nurse will:
Our hospice social workers assist patients and families with a wide variety of non-medical concerns, such as offering counseling and guidance, making an initial assessment visit and subsequent visits as required for support and case management, as well offering bereavement counseling and support.
A dedicated and specially trained hospice rabbi and Christian chaplain serve our patients and families with spiritual support and guidance. They provide ongoing counseling and visitation and can coordinate with other clergy in the community.
Music and art therapists and Reiki practitioners provide supportive care to improve symptom management by helping to create a relaxing and nurturing environment.
"As a hospice chaplain and director of spiritual living, I often meet individuals and families who are in the midst of a serious illness, confounded by many emotions and important decisions to be made, and sense that they may be coming to the end of being able to change the direction of things. I gently remind them that it seems they have less control on things, that this is truly a sacred point in life, and much can still be gained, learned and achieved at this important point in our lifespan.
But like all of life, it takes planning and preparation to process, shape and experience to fully make the most of it. Today’s medical advances and technologies offer a plethora of choices to possibly fix things, but very often they reach a point where they not only cannot fix things, but can make things much more complex and too difficult to bear.
Accepting there comes a time when no more can be done can be heartbreaking, but it is a time in which we can take hold of the situation to make it more of our own. With hospice in place, our team focuses on ways to reduce pain, control symptoms and simply leave time for just living, not just surviving.
Hospice care focuses on this type of healing. It is a choice for someone who does not desire additional curative treatment when there is a terminal diagnosis. The decision to use hospice care is an important yet difficult one to make and should involve the patient, family and care team.
The Menorah Park Vinney Palliative Care and Hospice team wants to be there not just as medical professionals but also as people – to guide, support, and experience together this most sacred time of life. We are here to help."
