Hunt for Happiness

Posted on 01/18/23 by Beth in Community News

This issue is filled with stories about people who find and share joy in life, even when life doesn’t cooperate. Sometimes we make our own happiness and sometimes we need others to provide opportunities that bring us joy.

In January, we celebrate Hunt for Happiness week, begun in 2001 by the Society of Happy People. It’s the perfect time of year to hunt for happiness, since so many people feel less happy after the often intense period of celebration over the holidays.

Hunt for Happiness

The Society of Happy People promotes 31 different types of happiness, from creative to spiritual to nostalgic. They suggest that the simplest interactions that happen every day can bring us joy. We only need to be mindful and appreciative.

Studies have shown that interpersonal relationships are the most important factor in our general happiness as we age. Family, friends, neighbors, those with whom we share space or values, those on whom we rely or who rely on us – all provide opportunities for appreciation and pleasure.

The Menorah Park Life Enrichment team works hard to plan and promote engaging experiences that encourage socialization and spread joy. You’ll find several examples in this issue.

January 23-27 is National Activity Professionals Week. Let’s thank our team and celebrate their contributions to our health, wellbeing and happiness by taking advantage of the many life enrichment opportunities available in our community.
