Celebrating Our Volunteers: Klein Bernstein Volunteer of the Year

Posted on 09/21/22 by Beth in Community News

Steel drum music, laughter and applause filled the air during a heartfelt celebration of volunteers with awards presented to two outstanding volunteers.

“This was a meaningful opportunity to show our gratitude to an amazing group of people that freely give of their time. They bring such passion, talents and caring to our communities, enhancing each day for residents, clients and staff,” said President and CEO Jim Newbrough. “We are so lucky to have each and every one of them and glad to be able to welcome them back after a hiatus due to pandemic restrictions.”

It was apropos that the day of this celebration and award would have been the 100th birthday of Millie Klein, beloved matriarch of blessed memory who inspired this award. Millie was the first Volunteer Director at Montefiore. Daughters Judy Willensky and Leslie Klein Rosen shared fond memories ahead of Montefiore Volunteer Coordinator Jamie White announcing the recipient, Meryl Kaplan.

As an active volunteer at Montefiore, Meryl has helped at bingo and with afternoon services. “At a time when many were unable to volunteer during the pandemic, she bravely came back and assisted the enrichment department with transporting residents,” said Jamie. “On a recent occasion, she brought warmth and cheer by dancing with a resident right in the middle of shopping, showing the instincts that make Meryl so special.”

Vicki Snyder concluded, “You are Menorah Park’s Ambassadors and Menorah Park would not be able to function as well as it does without your help. None of you ask for anything in return, so today I hope you enjoy your party, because you deserve it!”
