A Legacy of Lifelong Learning

Posted on 09/21/22 by Beth in Community News

The recent library dedication at The R.H. Myers Apartments was an extension of the legacy of Harvey Zwerin (of blessed memory). An endowed donor fund was established by his daughters to sustain the library well into the future. Harvey was a lifelong learner and lover of books. His humor and optimism were a constant inspiration to others, and his contribution to the establishment of the library was invaluable. Harvey’s daughter, Lisa Copeland, and her family were present for the dedication, while her sister Mendy Hart and other family members joined virtually.

“Residents were so appreciative of all the hard work Harvey did for the library,” said R.H. Myers Administrator Tamera Ellis. “Harvey came into the office with a smile on his face all the time, sharing books. We really appreciate every single thing that he did and I just want to thank you, Lisa, Mendy and the entire family, for continuing this. It means so much to us.”

Rabbi Akiva Feinstein explained the importance of the library. “For the people who live here, there’s nothing like a good book. The Jewish section, Jewish history and Torah books are very popular, but a good mystery, a good romance, is something that the residents really enjoy. It’s something to talk about. It brings people together.”

Books help define us, and I think Harvey would be so proud that we’ve organized and furnished the library and that there is a social aspect to it. A place to sit, enjoy the books and talk about them. On behalf of Menorah Park, thank you so much to the family.
