Aquatic Therapy
For centuries, healers have used the therapeutic properties of water to restore health and prevent disease. Aquatic exercise provides a safe, pain-limiting medium for individuals coping with a wide array of physical issues. The state-of-the-art Peter B. Lewis Aquatic & Therapy Center offers campus residents and community outpatients the most advanced aquatic rehabilitation therapy available in the Cleveland area. There is a large warm-water pool for water walking, swimming and aquatic exercise classes. In addition, three therapy pools feature movable floors so wheelchair-bound clients and those recovering from injury or surgery can enter the water without fear. And, since we live on land, clients can seamlessly move to on-site land-based exercise to continue with an individualized exercise regimen.
Land Therapy
The Peter B. Lewis Aquatic & Therapy Center specializes in the older adult population, but provides appropriate services to adults of all ages in need of rehab therapy.
The rehabilitation therapists help clients improve strength and mobility, maintain independence and improve everyday skills. The traditional physical, occupational and speech therapies are complemented by the expressive therapies of art and music, enabling clients to meet their rehabilitation goals in the best way possible.
Balance and Motion Therapy
Each year, one of every three people 65 years and older falls. Balance and Motion Therapy is designed for adults who have experienced a stroke or have issues with balance, mobility or dizziness stemming from disorders or conditions such as diabetes. Using the latest technology, the NeuroCom Smart Balance Master System, the problem is accurately pinpointed and an individualized therapy program with quantifiable measures of improvement is provided. From diagnosis to treatment, the program provides clients with peace of mind because they get concrete solutions to their specific issues related to balance.
Fitness and Wellness
Through supervised exercise training with the Center’s athletic trainers
and exercise specialists, clients can maintain the progress they have
made through their therapy program, continuing to build muscle and cardiovascular
strength and improve flexibility. The Center’s exercise equipment is specially
designed to alleviate pressure on the joints and allow for an appropriate
workout, no matter what the client’s age or personal lifestyle goals.
